About our organization

SJ HEALING CROSSROADS INC

We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing barriers that limit independence, opportunity, and belonging for people with disabilities. Our work combines direct support with long-term community capacity building so that access becomes part of everyday practice rather than an exception.

Why we exist

Many people with disabilities and their families encounter barriers that are not caused by disability itself, but by systems, spaces, information, and expectations that were not designed to include them. A difficult application, an inaccessible meeting, limited transportation, a lack of assistive technology, or uncertainty about workplace accommodations can each become a major obstacle.

SJ HEALING CROSSROADS INC exists to make those pathways clearer and more usable. We provide practical guidance, educational opportunities, community connections, and advocacy support that respect each person’s goals. We focus on what can be changed, coordinated, or made more accessible now while also helping community partners improve the way they serve people in the future.

Inclusive community engagement

Our mission and values

Our mission is to advance equitable access, informed choice, and meaningful community participation for people with disabilities. We pursue this mission through charitable assistance, education, referral navigation, skills development, and collaboration with families and local institutions.

Dignity

We treat every person as the primary decision-maker in their own life. Support should strengthen autonomy rather than replace it.

Accessibility

We work to make communication, programs, and processes easier to understand and use. Accessibility is considered from the beginning, not added only after a barrier appears.

Partnership

Long-term inclusion depends on cooperation. We build relationships with schools, employers, service providers, public agencies, volunteers, and community groups that can help expand opportunity.

Accountability

We maintain clear organizational information, responsible governance, appropriate records, and careful stewardship of charitable resources.

How our programs are shaped

Program design begins with listening. We gather input from participants, families, caregivers, partner organizations, and people with lived experience. This helps us understand which barriers are most urgent, which supports are genuinely useful, and where existing services may be difficult to reach or navigate.

We then build focused activities around those findings. Depending on community needs, this may include resource navigation, accessible workshops, digital skills, employment preparation, caregiver information, transportation coordination, community accessibility reviews, or referrals to specialized providers.
